Welcome

These are exciting times for The University of Winnipeg, its Collegiate, and The University of Winnipeg Foundation. On November 27, 2007, as the University approached the close of its 40th anniversary year, we publicly launched 'A World of Opportunity' Capital Campaign, the largest fundraising initiative in the history of our institution. It is gratifying to see the many individuals, organizations, and corporations who share our dream to sustain and enhance the extraordinary educational opportunities offered by The University of Winnipeg.

Significant new developments are planned for The University of Winnipeg that will provide students with an enriched academic environment and exciting new facilities. The physical changes that are beginning to take place on campus reflect the transformative nature of this period of our institution's history as we seek to better prepare our graduates for the future.

The mandate of The University of Winnipeg Foundation is to raise private funds in support of the vision and mission of the University. We had the opportunity at Homecoming 2007, at the November 2007 Launch, and at the major announcements that have since occurred to hear directly from University President Lloyd Axworthy and from our Campaign Chair Bob Kozminski about the important capital projects at the University and the opportunities for donors to assist in completing these projects.

We know our donors take pride in the progress and success of our University in delivering high quality education and making higher education accessible for all. Donors to The University of Winnipeg and its Collegiate can take individual and collective credit for helping, in the past as in the present, to bring exciting developments to fruition for the benefit of our students and of society.

Many important projects are coming on line, including such key capital elements as: the historic restoration of Wesley Hall and of Convocation Hall - officially reopened September 14, 2007; development of the University's new Science Complex; Richardson College for the Environment and Urban Green Space; McFeetors Hall and Great-West Life student residence; Canwest Centre for Theatre and Film; the expansion of Duckworth Centre; and the reconfiguration of Spence Street, to list a few.

In addition to capital projects, fundraising for student scholarships and bursaries and for academic enhancements are long-term priorities of the Foundation. An important initiative for this vision of the future is to build an Opportunity Fund that opens the doors to higher education, through encouragement and support, for those could not otherwise obtain a university education.

We invite our donors who take an interest in supporting a particular type of project or initiative to contact us. Each gift that we receive, large or small, has the power to change and improve lives. We will be pleased to help direct your investment to support higher education in a manner that best reflects your interests as a donor.

In the months ahead, we look forward to sharing more news on donor support for the important initiatives of our University.
