Wu Chung $1 Million Scholarship Announced February 15, 2006
The University of Winnipeg and its Foundation on February 15, 2006 announced the $1 Million Wu Chung Scholarship Fund with a gift to the University's Global College from Sir Gordon Wu and the Hopewell Charitable Foundation of Hong Kong, given in honour of Sir Gordon Wu's father, Wu Chung.
The Wu Chung Scholarship provides full tuition, books, accommodation, and living expenses, enabling up to four students a year from Huadu, in the region of Guangzhou, China, to pursue post-secondary undergraduate degree studies in Canada at The University of Winnipeg.
“This represents the largest gift from an international donor to benefit The University of Winnipeg and its students,” said Susan Thompson, CEO of The University of Winnipeg Foundation. “It is an inspired contribution and we are grateful to the Wu family for nurturing education and global citizenship in this way in Huadu, China, and in Canada.”
